The eggplant and Chinese broccoli were excellent. As is the cost of beer & sake during happy hour.

So you're telling me I can order sashimi and kung pao chicken here? WEIRD! But it's true, a Chinese/Japanese place does exist. Not the fusion kind either. The place wasn't too crowded on a Tuesday night. In fact, my table was the only one there for the majority of dinner. Granted we started pretty early at 530pm. We stuck to Chinese food and was fairly surprised. I really liked the Mongolian beef and sweet and sour chicken. I think they even used white meat for the chicken! Not the best Chinese but it's decent enough to satisfy your craving.

Since my last time I was here at Tao Yin Restaurant I was disgusted with my order. Now since remodeled of the restaurant, the restaurant is very beautiful and welcoming the sushi bar very nice and I see my sushi being make right in front of me. My order tonight was Spicy Tuna roll and Potsticker very tasty and a can of Coca-Cola although staff might need to smile time to time. But I would give them a thumbs up.

Well they messed up our order by leaving out THE most expensive roll, the Dragon roll. That speaks for itself. They also didn't make our avocado roll inside out, as requested. AND they forgot my side of Japanese mayo. Finally they bring my Dragon roll, and there's STILL no Japanese mayo. Ugh.The Dragon roll was good, hence the extra star. The avocado rolls were chewy. Eh.I suggest avoiding. There are a ton of sushi places in the city. Don't sacrifice your happiness for bad food. Isn't there enough sadness in life?

The Chinese food is OK which is why they don't get just a 1 from me. I love food and not the least bit picky at all. I will eat almost anything. The sashimi knife they use must be dull and the oyster tempura literally made me sick to my stomach. If you're looking for OK chinese food then stick to that and DO NOT get the sushi!

This really should be about 2.5 stars, but rounding up half a star for fast delivery. I've had delivery from Tao Yin a couple of times. The Chinese food has generally been decent (from a sampling of a few bed and lamb dishes), but nothing amazing. However the Japanese items have been pretty awful. I ordered tempura and fried tofu appetizers--both were strangely chewy. The grilled mackerel was a bit better. I might order from them again, but will be sure to stay away from the Japanese items on the menu.

It is a sorrowful thing that Yelp does not provide negative stars. If so, this review would contain more negative stars than the whole cosmos.First off, I went with Alberto H., so I will share my side of this horror story.I do not think Stephen King could write a setting as terrifying as this place.First off, the waiters were hella rude, and did not even apologize for the long wait times, and the fact that ELECTRIC POWER TOOLS (that could be heard from outside) WERE BEING USED WHILE PATRONS WERE IN THE RESTAURANT.I REPEAT, IN THE RESTAURANT.I'm sorry, but you can be as much Bob the Builder you want, when you are CLOSED, but when I am eating, I don't want to have to put fingers in my ears like I'm at a concert. How tacky and rude can you be.Second off, the food is terrible, no, atrocious. The tuna nigiri tasted like dirty soap. The avocado rolls were so flavorless I should've stopped right there...But like in all horror stories the main character doesn't realize the horror until it is too late...We ordered a veggie tempura to try and save what dignity we had, but no...things only descended into a lower cavern of hell. The salad was literally half dressing, the tea and the soup were lukewarm, and when we got our "tempura," 20 minutes after ordering, it looked as though it was a moldy, fungi (once again, lukewarm), not anything close to being fried. Not only was there no taste, bland, but they werent even cooked all the way through!!!This place needs to be shut down, or better, removed from the face of the earth.Tl;dr: don't ever come here.

This place ought to be the most loathsome hole in the wall I've ever tried... To be certain, I have had their take out before, and didn't have problems with the food until I found out where it came from...They were doing construction while customers were eating in the dining room... To which a buzz saw was being applied right next to the kitchen... I could taste sawdust in my California roll... Isn't that illegal?! Fresh ply didn't compliment the slime crab and stale rice creation they decided to serve us.This place needs to get shut down, or seriously revised... I have never experienced such a terrible place in my entire life.

I tried Tao Yin because of its delivery. The first time, the food came in a timely fashion. The food itself is mediocore and not special but for the value it's not so bad. The second time i ordered, the delivery didnt even come because after 2 hours, I told the restaurant that I had enough. I called the restaraunt multiple times, and the man told me that the driver was in a "traffic jam," for a over an hour when the restaraunt is only a ten minute drive. If you want to get the food delivered, save yourself the pain and go eat somewhere else.

Found this place on Yelp after searching sushi and one $ - the reviews are kind of scattered so I wasn't sure what the expect. We went during happy hour. The deal was pretty good. Buy one get one half off for rolls and $1.50 for sake or beer. We ordered spider roll, crunchy roll, california roll, and another (can't remember the name) with salmon and avocado. Sushi was really good. Not the best I've ever had but for the price, really good. The service on the other hand was awful. The waiter was distracted and pretty much absent the entire time. We were supposed to get complimentary hot tea, which was never brought. Our water was never refilled. To get our waiter to come over to our table we had to get up and walk to the back of the restaurant and holler back to the kitchen. When he brought out a plate of sushi I asked him which one it was - he had no idea! He kind of just looked at me with a blank stare - awkward.Three stars because the sushi was really good. Minus 2 for crappy service. I'll come again but for take out next time.

Ordered through Grubhub. I got a text saying that the food would be there in a little over an hour -- which was a long time, but okay. I heard nothing more for them until I called them after my order was already 20 minutes late -- and all I got was an, "I'm sorry, the kitchen might be busy. It will be there soon." I contacted grubhub after another twenty minutes, and my food finally got there a full hour late. Not surprisingly, it was cold. The food was okay; the chicken was kind of rubbery, but that might have been due to having to reheat it.Will never order from these guys again.

We ordered dinner on-line, at 7:30, after 3 calls to find out what the delay was, "Any minute now!" our dinner arrived at 9:30. Everything was room temperature to just verily warm. The pot stickers were cold. I had high hopes for this place, the menu is great, including a couple family meals. Being busy doesn't excuse cold food and if you're busy, tell your customer up front. If waiting 2 hours is a choice, we might decline, but we might try later, but now, your menu is in the trash.

We were so hopeful that we finally found a "gem" of a restaurant that would deliver. We've order 6 times now and while the first two orders were exceptional - excellent dishes, reasonable delivery time, etc. - the last four proved to be so disappointing that we will not order again. The delivery time went from a reasonable 20 - 30 minutes to 90+ minutes after the first 2 orders. The food is lukewarm to cold and every time they make an error in the order. We order online, where it offers you choices on how to prepare the meal. Every time they get it wrong, i.e. "hot and spicy" vs. "mild," and I just have to throw the dish away.Too bad ...

We used to order from Tao Yin a lot. "A Lot" to the tune of they knew our address and order when we called. Then prices went up. Ok, fine. Tough economy, cheap food, no big deal. What we learned though, was that paying that extra money meant we were paying for our delivery time to go from 40 mins to 2 hours. The last three times we ordered from them, I had to call multiple times to get my cold food. Not sure what happened, but we're done with ordering from these folks.

I really like this place. The sashimi is actually pretty good, the chinese food is delicious but a bit heavy - I recommend the sashimi instead. They deliver, and if you eat in they are fast and friendly.I also order from here all the time - they have great deals online where you can get free rolls, chow mein, etc. with a minimum $20 order. My only complaint is that the chinese food could be a little bit. . .I don't know. . .less greasy or whatever.

THE GOOD: My wife and I accidentally found this spot while running some errands and dropped in for lunch. The lunch specials were tasty and cheap (a winning combo for me), and they were brought to table very quickly. We had almost more than we could eat.THE BAD: Since I love tacoyaki (fried octopus), I decided to trip a lunch special that included taco (unfried octopus). It was a bit tough, and I wouldn't order that again. Also, our silverware wasn't 100% clean.BOTTOM LINE: I would definitely go out here again for lunch -- tasty and cheap.

It is okay. Eaten here more than five times, very average food with okay prices. Decor is also lacking, but not a total failure..Today I had a chicken soup. the pieces of vegetables were too large, and some vegetable were too raw. The cabbage in the chicken soup did not work. With the same ingredients the chef could have made a better plate

I used to order from Tao Yin, but they just lost one customer! The delivery guy arrived, gave me my food and asked me to sign the bill as usual, and then, out of nowhere asked me if I was living alone, if I was a student, my name... Which is none of his business! Oh and he tried to give me a hug...Anyway, an hour later I received txts from a number I didn't know, someone that knew my full name (I didn't give my real name to the delivery guy when he asked)... Guess who it was?WTF!!!! How creepy and inappropriate that is!!! Not only he went back to get my real name and my number, but he knows my address! I definitely NOT recommend this restaurant!

first eat-in dinner experience here was pretty yummy. nothing fancy, but I really enjoyed our alaska roll and salmon sashimi. Shrimp veggie tempura (small cuts) and my companion's chicken teriakyi were just ok. Diner box was a pretty good deal, I can't believe I live so close to this place and only trying it now. nothing fancy but it sure hit the spot. Rolls are pretty inexpensive for SF prices. He liked his California roll too.

Since my fiancee and I started going here, it has done nothing but go downhill. The only good part about this place are the prices, but those have even gone up and up and up.I ordered from here last night, but it will be the last time. Chinese food should take no more than 15-20 minutes to cook. And then delivery time, but we are talking maybe another 15-20 minutes. If my math is correct, that is a max of 40 minutes. So, how does it take an hour and 20 minutes for me to get delivery Chinese food? By the time it arrives, it is cold, the stuff that might have been crunchy is not any more, and at that point, the food was just kind of gross.I would not recommend this place for delivery. Go somewhere else. They will probably send your food out for delivery faster.
